Mercedes-Benz, or colloquially known as the Mercedes, is a mark of automobiles, buses, vans and trucks of the Daimler-Chrysler company (formerly well-known as Daimler-Benz).

The origins of the company go back to 1880, when Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz invented the internal combustion engine for automobiles, in the southwest of Germany. Mercedes-Benz is the oldest manufacturer of automobiles of the world.

Although Mercedes was focused on terrestrial vehicles, Mercedes-Benz also constructs motors for boats and airplanes (civilian and military), and even for zepelines. The three pointed star symbolizes the original search of Daimler to provide useful small and powerful motors for travel in land sea and air.The laurel, symbol of the Benz mark was added in 1926 to symbolize the union of the two companies.

The vehicles of Mercedes-Benz have been centered on a high quality of technical and aethetic design. Historically more expensive, they have been manufactured in smaller production runs than standard vehicles. The company has carefully cultivated an image of technical superiority, quality and service in its automotive designs, the reason why these luxury cars have been frequently chosen for purchase by the rich and famous. Although Mercedes has been more famous by its limousine models and their luxury cars, they have constructed a great number of sport substitutes. Examples of them were the superpowerful SSK developed by Porsche, and the "Equivalent monoplane wings" (Gullwing) 300SL of 1954. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz has also produced less expensive cars and with a greater production to enter into a quality car in the popular market.

Their products have introduced technologies such as fuel injection and ABS now common features on many contemporary automobiles. link
